Death and Destruction
This post may seem a little morbid (oriented around death) but it is what I am thinking about right now. I am sure many of you know about the shooting that took place on wednesday, at Platte Canyon HS in Bailey,CO. I am also sure EVERYBODY knows about the Columbine HS massacre 7 years ago. While only one student died at PCHS, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris injured or killed 36 people (including themselves) at CHS. When I think of these the muddle of emotions is hard to seperate and analyze. My immediate thought is tears of rage (if that makes sense). I am so angry at whoever the shooters are and my eyes are filling with tears for the familes and relatives. Then I am a little more analytical about why it happened, so then I understand what led up to it (however that does NOT mean I accept it as an okay thing to do). The last emotion I feel is fear, because both were random, and couldn’t be stopped before deaths occured. Now granted, CHS had Dylan and Eric flagged as disturbed because of past records, but they NEVER EVER expected them to do what they did. So my question to you is this, How does it make you feel? and What do you think we (meaning teachers, students, security, law enforcement, etc.) can do to prevent these when they happen so randomly? Please include the answers to these questions in your comments.
