Rules

Sit down. Shut up. Listen. No back talk. Don’t steal. Don’t lie. Rules are everywhere, you can’t possibly know them all, so should we be blamed for breaking a rule we don’t know? Okay so rules can be good in some settings, obviously we don’t want a total anarchy where everybody goes around doing whatever they want, but some rules are arbitrary, outdated, and overkill. Like all this stupid grrr mantra. Yes we know we need to behave, and have our stuff, and be on time, and… but do you think drilling it into our heads repeatedly is going to help? NO!!! It makes us so sick of it that we want to run screaming from the room anytime someone mentions it. Another slightly ridiculous rule is that you must work quietly on your own when told so. Why does it matter who told you to? That leads me to another point. What makes an authority figure be an authority and why are they so powerful? I mean yes most of the time their older,  they can punish you, etc. but does that mean they automatically are better/ higher on the authority “food chain”? Why can’t student’s punish teachers? Why can’t you ground your parents? Saying that people can punish you just because they are a certain age or social position is basically segregation. I have always been the person who asks why. Why do we have to blindly follow you? Why can’t we have a say? Why do you condescend to me? WHY WON’T YOU LET ME DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFE?!? Why do we have to listen to you and only you? And finally Why do I have to crush my creativity to follow some dusty rule that no-one cares about anymore?
